Dual Projection; Blinky and Me, 2011

I drove up to Bard College to see the Blinky Palermo retrospective at the Hessel Museum of Art. The Palermo show filled roughly half the exhibition space and the remainder was given over to an exhibition entitled If You Lived Here, You’d Be Home by Now — a title that conjures impatience, sitting in a cloud of exhaust waiting outside the Holland Tunnel and staring up at a cheaply made condo complex with an enormous vinyl sign hanging from its tinted blue glass facade. Quietly echoing its neighbor, this exhibition too, had a small piece by Palermo. A photograph of a projection of tinted light streaming out a window and onto a building exterior creating an ethereal and transitory Palermo that would fade to nothingness in the dawn light.
