HYBRID, 2023

The motion capture video HYBRID is based on an avatar constructed by combining my head with that of my husband’s, joining our heads together on the vertical—down the center between the eyes. This motion capture video is both a personal and speculative imagining of our future in a disembodied world in which our brains have been uploaded into the same data container. (HYBRID also exists as a 24” tall white bronze sculpture.) HYBRID is a continuation of my thinking about the meaning of living in a disembodied world in light of the research being done, primarily by men, into Whole Brain Emulation. But ultimately, this work is about the unknowability of the other, even an intimate other.
