UNWRAPPED, 2021 is part of a larger project focused on our consensus about what constitutes the self. At the same time this project looks more closely at the theoretical underpinnings of our accepted definitions of the index in photography and how that understanding has shifted with the advent of post-photography and new technologies. The same object file used to create my 3D sculpture, can be placed inside Maya and photographed as if it were a model, generating a set of 2D self-portraits. In addition, models of the 3D sculptures can be placed within 3D social networking spaces. The process of baking light onto these sculptural images and laying them out flat, is what these unwrapped images are. All are a variety of self-portrait and are related to existing sculptural objects.
